Academic Calendar

KSE curriculum is divided into five two-month “miniterms,” each with approximately seven weeks of instruction, and one week set aside for reading, review, and examination. The program generally follows the KSE practice of not holding classes during official holidays. If this practice encroaches excessively on class time, however, program classes may be held on a holiday, or made up for by shifting meetings to other days.

The academic calendar for 2008-2009 is as follows:

Miniterm I:Monday, September 1, through Friday, October 24.
Exams from October 20 to October 24.
Miniterm II:Monday, October 27, through Friday, December 19.
Exams from December 15 to December 19.
Holiday break: Saturday, December 20, through Monday, January 12.
Miniterm III Monday, January 12, through Friday, March 6.
Exams from March 2 to March 6.
Miniterm IV:Wednesday, March 11, through Thursday, April 30.
Exams from April 27 to April 30.
Holidays: March 9 - International Women’s Day; April 20 - Easter Holiday; May 1,2 - Labor Day.
Miniterm V:Tuesday, May 5, through Friday, June 26 (for the 1st year students).

Exams from June 8 to June 12.

Thesis Defenses - June 15 - June 19.

Class Schedule

As a rule, class sessions of 1 hour and 20 minutes each are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Some courses, as well as make-up classes, however, can be held on Saturdays or Sundays. Shortly before the beginning of each term, course schedules are posted on the bulletin boards, as well as e-mailed to all faculty and students. Changes in the schedule are communicated to students, as soon as they are administratively set.

Examination Schedule

Midterms and other examinations during the term are scheduled at the discretion of the instructors and are given during class hours. Final examinations are held in the eighth week of each miniterm after the 7-week instructional session. In exceptional cases, final examination maybe scheduled on the last day of the seven’s week or on Saturday/ Sunday. The schedule for final examinations is established by the Academic Affairs Department. There is only one examination per day. Oral examinations are generally not permitted, except in the case of the thesis defenses and graded class presentations. Take-home examinations may be permitted only upon the discretion of the KSE Program Director.
