Kyiv Point of View

Kyiv Point of View (KPV) is a series of open discussions organized by the Kyiv School of Economics on topics relevant for Ukraine. The goal of the events is enlarging the public debates in Ukraine.



On April 3, 2014 Kyiv School of Economics held Kyiv Point of View discussion: “Increasing rates for housing and community services and social protection of population in Ukraine”

Invited experts:

Dmytriy Arlachov (head of department, The National Commission of the State Public Utilities Regulation); Anton Levitskiy (expert of Municipal Development Institute); Serhiy Kondryuk (Deputy of Chairman, Trade Unions Federation); Anna Vakhitova (expert in  labor economics  and migration, Assistant professor, KSE); Natalya Khotsyanovskya (head of Economic Department, Ministry of Regional Development); Vitaliy Muzychenko (head of department, Ministry of Social Policy); Tatyana Boyko (housing and community programs coordinator, The Civil Network “OPORA” ).
Ihor Shumylo, the advisor of KSE President, former director of General Economic Department of the National Bank of Ukraine, was a moderator of the discussion.

Experts emphasized the importance of protection low income persons and the need to improve energy efficiency. Dmitriy Arlachov and Anton Levitskiy presented the possible solutions of problems and clarified the situation in HCS. 




On February 27, 2014 Kyiv School of Economics held Kyiv Point of View discussion: “Economical Challenges to Ukraine. What Do We Need to Do?”.

On December 24, 2013 Kyiv School of Economics held Kyiv Point of View discussion: "State and perspectives of the economy of Ukraine: Kyiv opinion."




On September 12, 2013 Kyiv School of Economics held the sixth Kyiv Point of View discussion in the format of Brown Bag Lunch: “QE3 tapering in USA: Challenges and Opportunities for Ukraine”

Invited experts: Maksym Obrizan, Assistant Professor, Senior Economist of KSE;
Igor Shumylo, the advisor of KSE President, former director of General Economic Department of the National Bank of Ukraine; Pavlo Sheremeta, the President of the Kyiv School of Economics, was a moderator of the discussion.




The fifth KPV discussion took place on July 11, 2013, and was dedicated to “Development Scenario for Old Industrial Regions of Ukraine: From Decline to Prosperity”.

Within the discussion two researches were presented: complex research on the prospects of strategic development of old industrial regions of Russia and Ukraine, conducted in 2012-2013 by Stas Marketing, and the work on urban studies by Volodymyr Vakhitov from the Kyiv School of Economics “Effect the Economic Clusters Have on Industrial Enterprises Productivity”.

The fourth KPV discussion was held on June 7, 2013, and was titled “Capital City 2.0.”

In the framework of the event KSE students presented their projects, prepared within the course by Pavlo Sheremeta “Strategy and Leadership”, on Kyiv city development. Among the experts were Petro Poroshenko, the Member of the Verkhovna Rada and the Member of a Committee on European Integration of Ukraine, and Prof. Jacques-François Thisse, one of the world’s best urban economists, who gave a lecture on “The role of Cities in Economic Development: The End of Flat Geography."

The third KPV discussion
was held on June 5, 2013. The topic of the discussion was "Trade Policy Choice for Ukraine: Comparison of FTA EU and CU Integration Scenarios."


Invited experts: Andriy Blinov, "Expert" magazine, Igor Burakovsky, The Institute for Economic research and Policy Consulting, Victor Chuzhykov, Kyiv National Economic University, Volodymyr Dubrovskiy, Kyiv School of Economics, Oleksandr Fedirko, Kyiv National Economic University, Valeryi Pyatnytskiy, Government Authorized Representative on European Integration, and Pavlo Sheremeta, Kyiv School of Economics.

The event was dedicated to the results of the Kyiv School of Economics project supported by the International Renaissance Foundation. The research results were presented by Oleksandr Shepotylo, KSE Assistant Professor.

The second KPV discussion was held on May 16, 2013, and was dedicated to "Food Security."

Invited experts: Alexei Kredisov, Managing Partner at Ernst & Young, Yuriy Logush, Vice Rector at "Ukrainian Catholic University" (UCU), Former Vice-President at Kraft Foods Europe, Oleksandr Pochkun, Managing Partner at Baker Tilly Ukraine, and Yuri Zastavny, Expert, Project Director.

Pavlo Sheremeta,
President of the Kyiv School of Economics, was a moderator of the discussion.

Invited speakers discussed the following issues:
  • Agricultural sector in Ukraine: what are the prospects of development?
  • What prevents Ukraine from being an agrarian "tiger"?
  • What should be the state policy regarding the agricultural sector development?
Among other participants were: students, academics, representatives of research institutions, of international organizations, mass media and the participants of MBA Program of Agro Leadership for Agroholding "Mriya".

The first KPV
discussion was held on February 21, 2013, and was dedicated to “Challenges Facing Ukraine on Its Way to the Global Integration. Kyiv Point of View”. The event took place before the EU-Ukraine Summit held on February 25 in Brussels.

Experts of the Kyiv School of Economics, as well as well-known international and Ukrainian experts participated in the discussion.  Among the participants were: Anders Åslund, Anna Derevyanko, Volodymyr Dubrovskiy, Vadym Karasiov, Danylo Lubkivsky, Alexander Paskhaver, Zenon Potoczny, Danica Purg, Oleksandr Shepotylo, Olga Shumylo-Tapiola, Andreas Umland, Kostiantyn Yelisieiev and Andrii Yermolaiev.

The discussion was moderated by Pavlo Sheremeta, KSE President.
